The Davies Guitar Company

Over the years I have built everything from: OM, jumbo, parlour and Dreadnaught guitars to, classical guitars, octave guitars, seven strings, acoustic basses and resonators. Today I still embrace and enjoy a broad variety of making. That said, over time I have primarily become known for my classic OMs and I am now developing a Modern OM - similar in size to the original 1929 OM, yet with my own interpretation of the original theme, incorporating optional contemporary features such as a forearm and rib bevel, as well as a totally unique design of horn-effect sound port. 

Since I first ‘set up shop’ in 1992, interest in luthier-built OMs has soared with the model increasingly emerging as the fingerpicking acoustic - due to players such as Martin Carthy, Martin Simpson, Stephan Grossman, John Renbourn and many others using the model to great effect, not to mention Eric Clapton’s use of his 000 (same shape) on his ‘Unplugged’ album.    

I’m personally very grateful for the opportunity to make OMs (and a Davies R-Type Jumbo Seven-String) for the late John Renbourn who was an endorsee, customer and good friend. 2027 will mark the 25th anniversary of the year that John commissioning the build of his Davies OM-28 to replace his aging Franklin OM. I am delighted to announce, with the fully support and blessing of both Renbourn Guitar Workshops and the Renbourn family, we are therefore launching a limited run of 25 Davies, John Renbourn Tribute OM-28s… Watch this space!
